ICDL – the Digital Skills Standard in Rwanda.

ICDL holds significant importance in Rwanda as a catalyst for advancing digital literacy across the nation. Since the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in 2015 with the Ministry of Youth and ICT, ICDL has played a pivotal role in shaping the National Digital Literacy Policy. The establishment of the ICDL Africa Office in Kigali and subsequent expansion across the continent, including strategic offices in East, West, and Southern Africa, underscores its commitment to enhancing computer skills. This has far-reaching implications for individuals seeking employment, students aiming to fortify their education, and the broader socio-economic development goals of Rwanda, positioning ICDL as a key driver in empowering the nation’s workforce for the digital era.

In response to Rwanda’s commitment to fostering a digitally literate and technologically adept workforce, the AIMS/ICDL project emerges as a dynamic collaboration between the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) and ICDL. This initiative seamlessly integrates ICDL modules into the AIMS curriculum, offering students a dual advantage of advanced mathematical proficiency and essential computer skills and certification. This strategic coupling not only aligns with Rwanda’s broader vision for technological advancement but also positions graduates to excel in the evolving job landscape, reinforcing the project’s integral role in Rwanda’s socio-economic development.
