The Tanzania Information and Communication Technologies Commission (ICTC), a government agency responsible for promoting ICT development, digital literacy, professional standards, and capacity building across Tanzania, officially recognised ICDL Africa as a strategic partner for digital skills development in 2019. The recognition reflects the Commission’s commitment to building a digitally skilled workforce capable of supporting Tanzania’s social and economic transformation.
Since the recognition, ICDL has played an important role in supporting human capital development by providing a structured pathway for acquiring and certifying digital skills. Through a network of accredited test centres across Tanzania, ICDL programmes help students, educators, government employees, and private sector professionals develop the competencies needed to participate effectively in an increasingly digital economy.
The partnership between ICTC and ICDL demonstrates Tanzania’s commitment to strengthening digital skills at a national level and ensuring that citizens have access to internationally recognised qualifications that enhance employability, productivity, and lifelong learning opportunities. It also aligns with the Commission’s vision of fostering an ICT-enabled knowledge society and preparing the workforce for the demands of the digital age.
The Commission further noted that ICDL’s certification standards align closely with its statutory mandate to build ICT capacity and promote professional standards within the country’s digital ecosystem. By recognising ICDL Africa as a partner, ICTC reinforced the importance of internationally recognised certification in supporting the implementation of Tanzania’s ICT policies and broader digital transformation objectives.
Under this partnership, ICDL was recognised as a provider of internationally benchmarked digital skills certification, enabling learners, employees, and institutions in Tanzania to validate their digital competence against a globally recognised standard. The ICT Commission acknowledged that ICDL’s certification framework supports the development of practical digital skills required in education, public administration, and the private sector.
