ICDL is the digital skills standard. Join over 17 million people and boost your skillset with a flexible certification that allows you to develop your computer skills to your own requirements.

In 2016, ICDL Africa made its entry into Guinea, laying the foundation for a digital revolution that has since shaped the nation’s educational and professional landscape. The initiation of ICDL (International Computer Driving License) in Guinea started with a single Accredited Test Center and a vision to empower citizens with essential digital skills.

A pivotal moment in this journey was the collaboration between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Guinea and ICDL Africa, culminating in the launch of the digital access program. This initiative, implemented by Dixinn-Gate, was a natural progression from the “Presidential Initiative for the Connection of Schools” introduced by President Alpha Condé in 2017. It led to the establishment of the “PANG” (Programme d’Accès au Numérique en Guinée), a digital access program aimed at transforming education through technology.

Through a partnership with ICDL Francophone and Dixinn-Gate, the ambitious plan aimed to train 220 teachers by 2020. These trained educators would then impart their knowledge to students in High Learning Institutions (HLIs) across Guinea. The adoption of ICDL as the standard for digital literacy in HLIs marked a significant step toward creating a digitally proficient workforce.

The project, launched in December 2019, commenced training for the selected 220 teachers in January 2020. This marked the beginning of a transformative journey for both educators and students, setting the stage for Guinea’s digital future.

The official launch of ICDL in Guinea took place during the 5th edition of Semaine Du Numerique, with key figures such as ICDL Foundation CEO, Mr. Damien O’Sullivan, and the Minister of Posts, Telecommunications, and the Digital Economy, Hon. Ousmane Gaoual Diallo, playing pivotal roles. This momentous occasion showcased the commitment of Guinea’s Ministry and Government to building a digitally literate population.

The partnership between ICDL Africa and the Agence Nationale de Digitalisation de l’Etat (ANDE), marked a groundbreaking collaboration. ANDE became the first accredited center in Guinea to deliver ICDL training, symbolizing a crucial step toward closing the digital skills gap. This collaboration focused on training civil servants, acknowledging the pivotal role they play in the country’s development.

The inaugural ceremony at Palais Du Peuple solidified this partnership, emphasizing the Ministry’s trust in ANDE’s expertise and commitment to delivering quality education. The collaboration is designed to equip civil servants with internationally recognized certifications, providing them with the necessary digital skills to navigate the evolving digital landscape.

In expressing his enthusiasm about the partnership, Hon. Ousmane Gaoual Diallo highlighted the government’s commitment to building a digitally inclusive society. The collaboration with ICDL Africa and ANDE is seen as a strategic move to empower Guinea’s workforce with the skills needed to thrive in the digital age.

The impact of ICDL in Guinea goes beyond certification; it signifies a commitment to building a future-ready nation, where digital literacy is a cornerstone for progress. As Guinea continues on its digital transformation journey, the ICDL initiative stands as a beacon, illuminating the path towards a technologically empowered and globally competitive nation.
