A Local Office Provider agreement was signed between ICDL Africa and Engage Consult to manage ICDL Activities in Uganda, with an office based in Kampala.

ICDL holds significant importance in Uganda, contributing to various facets of the nation’s development. Its integration into ACE-based schools, such as Asifiwe International Academy, Friends International Christian Academy, Orchard International Christian School, Shoma Christian Academy, and Chum International School, underscores its role in shaping the digital literacy landscape from an early education stage. These schools not only offer ICDL to their students but also prioritize upskilling their teachers, emphasizing a holistic approach to digital education.

Furthermore, the collaboration between ICDL and regulatory bodies like the Uganda Communication Commission (UCC) through the Rural Communications Development Fund (RCDF) stands out. The adoption of ICDL as the training platform for RCDF’s initiatives, especially in partnership with the Federation of Small & Medium Enterprises of Uganda, showcases the program’s relevance in community development and capacity building. Over a thousand individuals have already undergone training in Digital Citizen and Digital Citizen Plus, reflecting the tangible impact of ICDL in enhancing digital skills at the grassroots level.

Uganda’s commitment to considering ICDL as the standard digital skills program aligns with the Universal Coverage Policy, emphasizing inclusivity and accessibility of digital education across diverse communities. The recognition of ICDL as a vital component in sponsored training programs by UCC reinforces its position as a benchmark for digital proficiency in the country.

In essence, ICDL’s importance in Uganda extends beyond individual skill development to national policies, educational institutions, and community-driven initiatives. It acts as a catalyst for digital empowerment, economic growth, and global competitiveness in Uganda’s evolving digital landscape.
