Thailand Ministry of Education (MoE)ICDL Officially Recognised as an Educational Standard in Thailand

14 March 2019 – ICDL achieved a significant milestone in Thailand with the formal recognition and endorsement of its certification programmes by the country’s Ministry of Education. The recognition underscores ICDL’s role in supporting digital literacy and workforce readiness through internationally recognised digital skills certification.

The Certificate of Recognition was presented by Mr Teerakiat Jareonsettasin, Minister of Education of Thailand and Chairperson of the International Vocational Education Committee, to Dr Hugh O’Connell, Managing Director of ICDL Thailand. The award formally acknowledges ICDL as an approved educational standard for digital skills development in Thailand.

The certificate confirms that the International Vocational Education Committee, operating under the Ministry of Education of the Kingdom of Thailand, officially recognises and endorses ICDL certification programmes within the country. This endorsement further strengthens the position of ICDL as a globally recognised benchmark for digital competence and learning.

As a result of this recognition, public and private schools licensed by the Ministry of Education, as well as colleges, universities, and other education and training providers, are authorised to deliver ICDL certification programmes. All participating institutions are required to operate in accordance with ICDL Foundation’s approval, accreditation, quality assurance, and certification standards, ensuring that learners receive high-quality and internationally consistent digital skills training.

The endorsement represents an important step forward in Thailand’s efforts to strengthen digital literacy and equip learners with the skills needed to succeed in an increasingly technology-driven world. By making ICDL certification more widely available through educational institutions across the country, students and professionals gain access to internationally recognised qualifications that support further education, employability, and career development.

Speaking on the achievement, Dr Hugh O’Connell welcomed the recognition as a major development for digital education in Thailand and a strong endorsement of ICDL’s commitment to raising digital competence standards across the region. The recognition also reflects the growing importance of digital skills as a foundation for economic growth, innovation, and lifelong learning. [icdlthailand.org]

With this official endorsement, Thailand joined a growing number of countries that recognise ICDL as a trusted framework for developing and certifying digital skills, helping learners, educators, and employers to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving digital economy.
