Temasek Polytechnic and ICDL

Established in 1990, Temasek Polytechnic is one of Singapore’s leading Institutes of Higher Learning. It prides itself on equipping students with lifelong skills and digital knowledge to prepare them for a rapidly changing future.

In line with Singapore’s Smart Nation strategy, which aims to prepare students for the digital economy, TP recognises the importance of digital technologies in enabling new forms of self-directed and collaborative learning. This vision led to a strategic partnership between ICDL Asia and TP to launch a programme designed to strengthen students’ digital skills and core workplace competencies.

Led by TP’s Industry Partnership team, the programme was launched in 2020 with 518 students from the School of Applied Science (ASC). Students have the opportunity to complete up to five ICDL modules during their diploma studies.

Through this programme, students are empowered to learn collaboratively using ICDL’s interactive and engaging eLearning courseware.

Following the programme’s success within ASC, the Schools of Business, Engineering, and Humanities & Social Sciences also made ICDL modules available to their diploma students. To date, more than 1,400 students from four academic schools at TP have completed ICDL training and earned certification.

To better prepare for internships and future employment, TP students have shown a strong preference for ICDL office productivity modules. There has also been growing interest in modules focused on emerging technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT).

ICDL Asia has also supported faculties in selecting the most relevant modules for their students. Business and Law students undertake the Cyber Security and Teamwork modules, while Engineering students are encouraged to complete the Data Analytics module.
