RORA, the coordinating body for the Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) curriculum in Rwanda, has played an important role in promoting digital literacy and advocating for the adoption of ICDL as a recognised digital skills standard within schools delivering the ACE curriculum. As a registered organisation in Rwanda, RORA was appointed by Accelerated Education Enterprise (AEE), the authorised distributor of the ACE curriculum across Africa.
Recognising the growing importance of digital skills in education and employment, RORA has actively encouraged schools using the ACE curriculum to integrate ICDL programmes into their educational offering. The objective is to ensure that learners not only achieve academic excellence but also develop the practical digital competences required for higher education, employment, and participation in today’s digital society.
Through its advocacy efforts, RORA has promoted ICDL as a consistent and internationally recognised framework for digital skills development across ACE schools in Rwanda. The initiative aligns with Rwanda’s broader national vision of building a knowledge-based economy supported by innovation, technology, and a digitally skilled population.
RORA’s support for ICDL forms part of a wider movement in Rwanda to strengthen digital literacy across both the education sector and public institutions. Over the years, Rwanda has implemented a range of initiatives aimed at embedding internationally recognised digital skills standards within schools, government organisations, and workforce development programmes. These include the approval of the National Digital Talent Policy, the adoption of ICDL within public institutions, and partnerships focused on teacher training and capacity building.
The impact of this approach can also be seen elsewhere in the region. Several ACE schools in neighbouring Uganda have adopted ICDL as their digital literacy standard, demonstrating the growing recognition of the programme within the ACE education community and supporting RORA’s vision of broader regional adoption.
By championing ICDL within ACE schools, RORA is helping educators and learners develop the digital competencies needed to thrive in the modern world. The initiative supports both educational achievement and workforce readiness, ensuring that students are equipped with skills that are recognised and valued internationally.
