Report shows rapid digitalisation due to pandemic, continued existence of digital divides

A new study from Cedefop has found that there is an increased demand for digital skills across the workforce because of the coronavirus pandemic. In its study, the EU agency analysed digital skills needs in both IT and non-IT related jobs. A review of online job adverts showed that cross-cutting digital skills such as using office software, using digital tools for collaboration, and being able to use business ICT systems were in high demand.

Despite this rapid digitalisation, the study also found that there remains a significant digital divide between age groups, between different regions of Europe, and between urban and rural areas.

This report highlights the importance of action to improve digital skills, including action to ensure that everyone has a good foundation of skills for using computers, online services, and productivity software safely and effectively.
