ICDL Asia and SNEF Join Hands to Explore Tailored Programmes Development for Singapore Workforce and Beyond

Singapore, March 13, 2024 – In a strategic move to bolster digital competency among Singapore’s workforce, ICDL Asia and Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF) have formalised a more comprehensive partnership through an official Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). SNEF has been at the forefront of delivering ICDL certification programmes to upskill its members, especially Singapore SMEs, for the past decade. The signing ceremony, held at the Shangri-La Hotel, signifies a significant milestone in the ongoing collaboration aimed at advancing digital literacy and skills development in Singapore and beyond.

The MoU signing ceremony witnessed a gathering of esteemed dignitaries, including Hildegarde Naughton T.D, Minister of State with special responsibility for Public Health, Well Being and the National Drugs Strategy at the Department of Health Ireland, Ms. Sarah McGrath, Irish Ambassador for Singapore, and Mr. Kevin Ryan, Director for Enterprise Ireland for the ASEAN markets.

The MoU was signed by Ms. Tina Wu, General Manager of ICDL Asia, and Mr. Stephen Yee, Deputy Executive Director of Singapore National Employers Federation, and witnessed by dignitaries and other representatives from the Irish Embassy, Enterprise Ireland, ICDL Asia and SNEF.

Building on the successful partnership between the two organisations, the MoU marks a significant milestone in their joint endeavor to elevate Singapore’s workforce readiness for the digital era. The partnership aims to delve deeper into the development of tailored programmes specifically designed to cater to Singapore employers and the workforce, providing essential digital skills needed to thrive in today’s fast-paced digital landscape.

As part of the collaboration, ICDL and SNEF will develop contextualised programmes for Singapore employers and the workforce and create more practical cases for corporates to learn how to apply digital technology in the digital economy. The best practices and success stories from Singapore’s experiences will also be shared and advocated through ICDL extensive global network of partners, further amplifying the partnership’s impact on a global scale.

Speaking following the ceremony, Minister of State at the Department of Health, Hildegarde Naughton said “Digital skills have a critical part to play in the workplace, and this MOU between ICDL Asia and SNEF will provide for greater access for Singaporean workers to key digital skills. I’m delighted to have been here today and see first-hand how Irish companies, such as ICDL, are playing such an integral part in upskilling workers around the world.”

Mr. Kevin Ryan, Director for Enterprise Ireland for the ASEAN markets welcomed the milestone event, commenting “ICDL have really expanded and grown in the region in recent years, and we continue to strongly support this critical work, as they engage with Government representatives and Ministerial Departments, driving efforts of workforce upskilling and enabling individuals to be future ready.”

Mr. Stephen Yee, Deputy Executive Director of SNEF, remarked that “SNEF will continue to collaborate with ICDL Asia to support employers in upskilling their workforce, enhancing their productivity, and promoting overall well-being through the effective use of digital skills and ethical application of AI in the workplace. The main objective is to build a robust workforce proficient in digital and AI skills, facilitate the creation of high-quality jobs, and foster a culture of lifelong learning within workplaces, leading to optimal outcomes and business improvement.”
