Vietnam, August 2024 – Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), a leading public university in Vietnam, has taken a significant step in enhancing digital literacy among its students by officially recognising ICDL certification as the IT proficiency standard. Formalised in Decision No. 2615/QD-TDT on 16 August 2024, the decision applies to undergraduate and specialised students, allowing them to be exempted from the Basic IT modules required for their programmes upon obtaining ICDL certification.
According to the decision issued by Ton Duc Thang University, students who possess ICDL certificates will now meet the university’s IT proficiency requirements without taking the mandatory Basic IT modules. Specifically, students are now required to complete three basic ICDL modules to fulfil the exemption criteria:
- ICDL Documents module – Equivalent to IT Foundation Module 1
- ICDL Spreadsheets module – Equivalent to IT Foundation Module 2
- ICDL Presentation module – Equivalent to IT Foundation Module 3
ICDL is a globally recognised certification programme for digital competence standards. In Vietnam, ICDL certification aligns seamlessly with the Ministry of Information and Communication’s (MIC) ICT skill requirements, serving as a benchmark for ICT proficiency among graduates of Vietnamese universities and colleges. By adopting ICDL as the standard for IT proficiency, TDTU not only aligns its academic offerings with international benchmarks but also supports its mission to cultivate high-quality human resources capable of meeting the evolving demands of both domestic and international labour markets.
The decision to recognise ICDL as the IT proficiency standard marks a significant milestone in the partnership between ICDL Vietnam and Ton Duc Thang University. This collaboration not only strengthens TDTU’s position in training high-quality human resources but also ensures that its students are well-equipped to meet the demands of the rapidly evolving digital landscape. This initiative represents a significant step towards our shared mission of nurturing a digitally literate generation. As the university continues to prioritisees technology education, this collaborative effort is poised to contribute to the holistic development of students and their readiness for the challenges of the digital era.
