In January 2024, the Yemen Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) formally endorsed ICDL certification through the General Telecommunications Institute (GTI), making internationally recognised digital skills certification more accessible to citizens across Yemen. The initiative is supported by Yemen’s Social Development Fund and aims to strengthen digital literacy, employability, and workforce readiness despite the country’s challenging socio-economic environment.
The General Telecommunications Institute, a leading government-affiliated training institution specialising in telecommunications and information technology, serves as an authorised ICDL training and testing provider and operates a nationwide network of branches and certified centres. Through this partnership, learners gain access to structured digital skills training aligned with international standards and recognised by employers and educational institutions worldwide.
The endorsement reflects Yemen’s broader commitment to advancing digital inclusion, developing human capital, and reducing the digital skills gap. The programme also complements national efforts to improve access to technology and digital services, enabling students, job seekers, and professionals to acquire essential competencies required for participation in the modern digital economy.
The initiative has also been supported by educational institutions such as the University of Science and Technology in Yemen, which has continued delivering ICDL programmes to equip students with practical digital competencies and internationally benchmarked certification.
