OVER 1,000 INSTRUCTORS OF SENA IN COLOMBIA WERE TRAINED AND CERTIFIED BY ICDL

A digital skills programme started in Colombia with cooperation between the National Learning Service, Servicio Nacional de Aprendizaje (SENA) and ICDL Colombia. The National School of Instructors of SENA aimed to train instructors to ensure they have the necessary digital skills to include ICT in their teaching activities and daily work.

As part of this pilot, 1,000 SENA instructors were trained and certified on December 2015 in seven different cities: Armenia, Barranquilla, Bogota, Bucaramanga, Cali, Medellin and Neiva. The trained instructors belong to different sectors such as: mining, agriculture, livestock, IT and health. After this first stage, the process will be replicated for all instructors, aiming to close the digital gap around the country.

At the same time, the project aimed to deliver a ‘Train the Trainer’ programme for 20 SENA instructors with the objective of setting up SENA Training Centres as ICDL Accredited Test Centres in different cities. This was done in order for the communities to have access to the digital skills certification with international standards ICDL.

This shows that government agencies should use ICT to promote quality of work. This is extremely important for the advancement of a country where different sectors can benefit from the use of ICT.

SENA, affiliated with the Ministry of Labour, promotes the development of labour skills of the population in Colombia, providing free training to millions of citizens who benefit from technical, technological and complementary programmes that focus on economic, technological and social development of the country based on the National Government’s goals.
