Nandi County is taking a significant step towards digital transformation by equipping local trainers with essential digital skills through a focused three-day ICDL training program. The workshop was aimed to prepare 33 trainers from 30 Vocational and Training Colleges (VTCs) across the county to deliver ICDL courses, with a particular focus on the Digital Citizen Program.
This training initiative is a major milestone in Nandi County’s digital agenda. The participants underwent assessment tests using the ICDL Compass tool and received detailed guidance on utilizing ICDL’s resources to empower communities at the grassroots level. A key highlight of the workshop was the simulated class activities, where the trainers showcased their newly acquired knowledge and skills.
The training culminated in an official closing ceremony, which drew over 500 attendees, including the Deputy Governor of Nandi County, Her Excellency Yulita Mitei. During her speech, the Deputy Governor reiterated the county’s commitment to adopting ICDL, noting that certification would provide participants with a competitive edge in employment and other opportunities. She also emphasized that the county leadership, led by His Excellency Governor Stephen Sang, is fully behind this initiative.
The partnership between ICDL and Nandi County is already bearing fruit, with an MoU signed and the county in the final stages of accreditation. The Deputy Governor also announced plans to sponsor university student leaders from the county for the training. The county, through of Members of the County Assembly and County Executive Committee members will help identify eligible students.
With at least 600 trainees expected to complete the Digital Citizen training, Nandi County is on the path to becoming a digital powerhouse. The 33 trainers who participated in the workshop have now been commissioned as ICDL ambassadors, and they will play a pivotal role in delivering digital literacy programs across the county.
This initiative is set to transform Nandi County, empowering residents with the skills and opportunities they need to thrive in a digital world.
