Empowering Singapore’s Workforce Through Digital Literacy
ICDL Asia and SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) have forged a dynamic partnership, signing two Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) to align Singapore’s national Employability Skills (ES) ICT modules with ICDL standards. Formerly known as Singapore’s Workforce Development Agency, SSG has played a pivotal role in catalyzing digital literacy nationwide. With up to 95% funding support for citizens and permanent residents, over 40,000 candidates have registered for ICDL programs by 2019.
Presently, 20 centers across Singapore offer ICDL programs, establishing multiple training and testing sites. The integration of 18 ICDL modules into the SSG WSQ Framework and SkillsFuture Approval signifies ICDL as the national standard for digital literacy. This alignment ensures accessibility for all working adults in Singapore, fostering a culture of continuous learning. Financial aid from SSG, coupled with support from local Community Development Councils, has enabled socially disadvantaged groups, including the unemployed, self-employed, and low-wage workers, to elevate their skills. This collaborative effort, led by Loh Gek Khim, Director of the Skills Development Division at SSG, highlights ICDL’s international standard as a catalyst for building a high-quality and sustainable training ecosystem, promoting lifelong learning across Singapore.
