Case Study: Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT)

Nurturing Malaysia’s New Generation of Digital Talent

The partnership between TAR UMT and ICDL Asia commenced in 2019 with the Faculty of Accountancy, Finance, and Business (FAFB), across all six TAR UMT campuses – in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Perak, Johor, Sabah and Pahang.

A pathway comprising 4 ICDL modules – Cyber Security, Management Spreadsheets, Online Collaboration, and Presentation (Advanced) – was tailored for TAR UMT students. Furthermore, in 2024 the ICDL Computing module was incorporated as an elective for these students.

To date, over 8,300 TAR UMT students across 5 academic programmes have received ICDL certification. Having acquired industry-relevant digital skills, these students can testify to their increase in productivity and employability in today’s competitive job market.

To maximise the effectiveness of its programmes, ICDL Asia has worked closely with TAR UMT in building a culture of knowledge exchange, regularly sharing its latest developments in response to the constructive feedback and suggestions which TAR UMT has been proactively providing. The synergy between both organisations has been a key driving force behind the success of this partnership, generating interest across other parts of Asia in replicating this model.
