ICDL Africa Signs MoU with Kenya’s Ministry of ICT and Digital Economy (MICDE)


After a long-anticipated journey, ICDL Africa has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of ICT and Digital Economy (MICDE) in Kenya. The signing ceremony, held at the MICDE boardroom, marked a pivotal milestone in advancing digital skills development in the country.

The event was attended by senior officials from the Ministry alongside the ICDL team led by CEO Damien. In his remarks, the Principal Secretary of MICDE expressed the Ministry’s pride in reaching this binding collaboration, noting that the Cabinet Minister has given full support to the partnership.

He highlighted that the Government of Kenya is aggressively investing in digital infrastructure and the digitization of public services. To fully realize this ambition, citizens particularly young people must be equipped with the right digital skills to seize opportunities locally and globally. He pointed to the growing Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector, as well as emerging opportunities in software development and Artificial Intelligence, emphasizing that ICDL certification will be key to building the talent and skills needed to compete in the digital economy.

ICDL CEO Damien reiterated ICDL’s commitment to supporting Kenya’s digital transformation agenda. “A digital economy can only be achieved through a digitally skilled people, and ICDL has been building those skills globally for many years,” he said.

The ceremony was also attended by the ICT Secretary in MICDE, the Tech Advisor to the Cabinet Minister, the Ministry’s Legal Advisor, the PA to the PS, and the Nairobi County Chief Officer in charge of Digital Economy, among others.

This MoU lays a strong foundation for collaborative action in equipping Kenyans with internationally recognized digital skills certification and accelerating Kenya’s journey toward a robust digital economy.
