ICDL AMERICAS ATTENDS THE 5TH MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE ON THE INFORMATION SOCIETY IN LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN

ICDL Americas attended the Fifth Ministerial Conference on the Information Society in Latin America and the Caribbean, which was organised by ECLAC and the Government of the United Mexican States. The conference was held in Mexico City from 5 to 7 August. More than 400 people related to the ICT sector attended.

The political and cooperation dialogue resulted in the signing of the Mexico City Declaration by representatives of most Latin American and Caribbean countries, approving the Digital Agenda (eLAC2018) to strengthen policies for a society based on knowledge with greater inclusion, equity and environmental sustainability.

It was acknowledged that the region must evolve towards an inclusive digital economy to increase productivity. The countries agreed to continue strengthening innovation, digital training and the dissemination of new technologies. Also, internet governance was highlighted as an essential element that should be transparent and democratic in order to benefit the multiple interested parties.
