Nanjing Students Emerging as Forerunners for Digital Skills to Represent China for Grand Final Competition

In accordance with China’s “One Belt, One Road” policy, plans to increase China students’ digital skills were implemented. Under the guidance of Nanjing Education Association for International Exchange, Nanjing Department of Education, Nanjing Educational Technology Center and support from Nanjing Commercial College, ICDL Digital Challenge 2018 – China National Competition was held successfully on 31 May 2018 in Nanjing, China.

More than 280 students from 10 vocational colleges and international schools in Chengdu, Nanjing, Wuxi and other cities participated in this competition. Out of all the contestants, 32 students emerged to represent their own schools to compete for the top 2 places per category to represent China in competing with other top Asian students in ICDL Digital Challenge 2018 – Grand Final competition in Thailand.

Awards Presentation Ceremony took place in the same afternoon after the intense competition in the morning. The top students representing China come from Nanjing Commercial College, Nanjing MoChou Vocational School and Nanjing Vocational Health College. The event was graced by leaders from Nanjing Municipal Government, Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, Nanjing Municipal Department of Education, Nanjing Education Technology Centre and Nanjing International Education Exchange Association.  Deputy Consul General of Consulate General of Shanghai – Ms. Aileen Murray, CEO of ICDL Foundation – Mr. Damien O’Sullivan, General Manager of ICDL Asia – Ms. Tina Wu also attended the ceremony and delivered welcome speech.

The leaders commented that “ICT Skills and digitization of education should start from the students, and we should encourage them to learn and upskill themselves through taking part in more international competitions”.  They were also very impressed that vocational college students emerge as the winners for the China National Round.
