ICDL Asia visits universities in South Taiwan

6 June 2019

Ms. Tina Wu, General Manager of ICDL Asia, visited two universities in South Taiwan, namely Chia Nan University of Pharmacy and Science and Far East University, accompanied by Taiwan Computer Skills Foundation.

Both universities have been teaching ICDL modules to students from School of Infocomm and Management for several years. They are excited about the new ICDL modules introduced to Taiwan, such as Computing, Data Analytics, and Digital Marketing.

Dean of Academic Affairs, Dr. Sheng-wen Hsieh, is particularly impressed by the ICDL Computing Module, and believes this module could benefit students across all the different faculties, even those studying agriculture or music. This is because the ICDL Computing Module does not teach Python programming skills alone but covers computational thinking first to lay the foundation. Furthermore, the courseware and assessment allow teachers from non-ICT faculties to teach coding in a more generic way.

After the two successful meetings, Computer Skills Foundation will work with ICDL Asia to develop relevant supporting teaching materials soon, so that all interested universities may launch these modules in the next academic year.
