ICDL AMERICA AND THE ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITIES OF LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN (UDUAL) SIGN MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

ICDL Americas and the Union of Universities of Latin America and the Caribbean (UDUAL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the aim of promoting and developing digital skills in Latin America and the Caribbean in the context of promoting the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for strengthening higher education and labour skills.

This collaboration arises in a Latin American context where the Information Society presents opportunities for social inclusion and development. However, these opportunities are still restricted by the so-called digital divide, the difference in access to both infrastructure and to ICT skills between countries and people whichin each country, which urgently calls for policies and digital skills programmes at all levels with the support of higher education institutions.

UDUAL is an international organisation created to promote the improvement of its affiliated universities. Has among its objectives “to promote, affirm, encourage and improve relations between Latin American universities and other institutions and cultural organizations” and “Enabling universities to be instruments that contributes to social, economic and cultural development in both its local environment, as in the broader context of Latin America. “

By this Memorandum of Understanding UDUAL will support the promotion of relevant digital skills and the networking around this topic in the academic field. The UDUAL network institutions will receive special benefits to be accredited as an Authorized Test Centre to offer the ICDL international certification programme within their academic programs and continuous education courses.

ICDL Americas, as part of the international organization ECDL Foundation, is to promote the competent use of ICT, which empowers individuals, organisations and the society. In this sense, ICDL Americas works with various government, and private educational organisations to offer digital literacy and digital skills training and certification for end users in both the academic and workforce development sectors.
